Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

On Monday, the hope of reconciliation between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was dashed.
Governor Wike had previously accused Atiku of putting his enemies on his presidential campaign council, according to Track News.

Governor Wike claimed that Atiku did not consult him as the state Governor before naming state residents to his campaign council.

The Rivers State Governor, who has stated unequivocally that he will not campaign for his party’s presidential candidate, may have spoken for his allies.

Governor Wike and four other PDP governors recently resigned from Atiku’s campaign council due to northern dominance in key positions in the party.

There are indications that the G-5 governors will not campaign for Atiku ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

We are unable to confirm Makinde’s endorsement of Atiku – Oyo PDP.
The PDP chapter in Oyo State announced on Monday that it cannot confirm Governor Seyi Makinde’s support for Atiku in 2023.

Governor Makinde is an ally of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who has also spoken out against northern dominance in the party and has called for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to be resigned.

In an interview with Leadership, PDP spokesman in Oyo State Akeem Olatunji stated that he could not say whether Makinde would campaign for Atiku.

When asked if the state governor would back Atiku, Olatunji replied, “I cannot speak on whether the governor will campaign or support the party’s candidate.”
