The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, may be persuaded to contemplate retiring from office by governors who ran on the PDP platform.
There are hints that the governors intend to act to reduce the tenseness in the party before the election in 2023.

According to a source who talked with Tracknews , the governors’ action is a response to a meeting between Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, and Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State.

Wike’s friends, Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State attended the conference in London.

The source added that one of the things holding up the composition of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council is the split between Wike and Atiku’s camp.

It has been officially decided that Ayu should stand down, according to another source. However, it is up to him whether or not he will accept the resignation.

However, the insider claimed that it is unlikely that the job would be filled by someone from the South-West if Ayu decided to leave.

If Ayu steps down, he said, “The interim chairman might come from any of the South’s geographical zones since PDP wants to win the general election decisively. It’s not typical for the celebration at this hour.
