Osun State’s governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has stated that the state government owes salaries and cannot pay pensioners because a large portion of the state’s funds are transferred to Lagos State.

Adeleke stated this during a Monday interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after receiving 403,371 votes, beating outgoing Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 375,027 votes.

“As I previously stated, paying a salary is not an achievement; if people work, you must pay them,” he explained. Achievements are what you bring to the table to improve the economy, such as the IGR. I told the outgoing governor, Governor Oyetola, that paying salaries is not an accomplishment; have you improved the economy?

“I’m going to work with pensioners and retirees; I’m going to sit down with them and have a meeting.” This is the money they owe you, as well as everything else. They can’t pay you because a lot of our money is leaving the country; I mean, a lot of our money is going to Lagos or somewhere. So I’ll fill those gaps.”
