“At the moment, for instance, to get to Calabar by air from any of the South-South states apart from Akwa Ibom, you’ll have to first fly to Lagos or Abuja to connect the Cross River State capital. Ditto for other state capitals in the region”

When operational, the Bayelsa airport will provide air travellers the ease of reaching any of these states as well as destinations such as Eket in Akwa Ibom, which has an airstrip, and the Bonny Island in Rivers State. Anambra and Asaba airports will also be destinations apart from Abuja and Lagos.

The government’s plan, however, is to make the Bayelsa airport a regional hub for air passengers across the region.
