Benue Governor Samuel Ortom has praised lawmakers who gave President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week deadline to improve the nation’s security or face impeachment.

Recall that on Wednesday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators issued an ultimatum to Buhari to address the country’s insecurity — or face impeachment proceedings.

PDP members in the House of Representatives followed in the footsteps of their Senate counterparts on Thursday.

Ortom received a delegation of national assembly members led by Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda in Abuja on Friday.

According to Nathaniel Ikyur, his spokesman, Ortom stated that Buhari has fallen short of Nigerians’ expectations in terms of addressing security and economic challenges.

“The governor described the decision of both the Senate and the House of Representatives to impeach the President as’patriotic,’ and especially commended some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who have opted to do the ‘right thing,’” according to the statement.

“According to Governor Ortom, President Buhari has performed far below the expectations of Nigerians in addressing the country’s security and economic challenges, and thus must make way for a more competent person.”
