Yakubu Dogara, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the Christian Association of Nigeria’s opposition to the All Progressives Congress’ Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket was godly.

Dogara, an APC chieftain, stated that CAN’s position on the matter is the position of all those who care about justice.

On Wednesday, the former Speaker spoke at a symposium on Nigeria’s leadership crises, which was held in Abuja as part of activities commemorating CAN’s 12th General Assembly.

“I want to say emphatically that CAN’s position on the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in this country, at this time of national peril, is not just CAN’s or Babachir Lawal’s, whom many have accused of being the only one who has made it an issue,” he said.

“I believe it (the rejection of a ticket of the same faith) is also the Almighty’s position, because we serve a God of justice.” He is both the just and the author of diversity, and he wants us all to come together, no matter how diverse we are.

“As a result, CAN’s stance represents the position of all of us (Christian political leaders) who value righteousness, justice, and diversity and are working to harness these for the advancement of this country.”

“Every other position is ungodly in the same way that we are fighting for a godly position.” There is no in-between. Either you stand for righteousness, justice, and inclusivity, or you work against the unity of this great nation.”
