Federal High Court Bar The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission from Conducting LGA Polls in the state.

**The court orders the IGP, DSS, and others to stop LGA polls.

The Rivers Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the 15th day of July, 2024, secured a Restraining Order from a Federal High Court against the National Independent Electoral Commission (INE), the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Attorney-General of Rivers State, Inspector General of Police and Department of State Security Service ahead of the proposed October 5th Local Government Council election in Rivers State.

According to report, the Restraining Order was subsequently appealed against by the Rivers State Government. The Appellate Court in its ruling reaffirmed, revalidated and restrengthen the Restraining Order issued by the Federal High Court

The Federal High Court about a forthnight ago upon hearing the matter in its merit reserved Judgement on the matter to a later date, which Judgement date, 30th September, 2024, was subsequently communicated to parties where the court gave its verdict on the matter on the scheduled date, 30th of September, in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Federal High Court in its Judgement Order bars the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the updated version of the voters register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct the planned election. It also barred the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Security Services respectively from participating in the planned October 5th LGA Election in the state.

The Court further ordered both the Police and DSS to stop the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) from conducting the October 5th Local Government Council election pending when the electoral umpire complies with the extant laws of the land as per report.
