If I win the election, I intend to sell all of the country’s oil refineries to investors – Atiku.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has stated that if elected, he will sell all Nigerian oil refineries to businessmen.
During a visit to Washington, Atiku spoke with the Voice of America in a special interview.
“My position on this is not new; I have said for years that I will sell them,” Atiku said in an interview with Aliyu Mustapha Sokoto, the head of VOA’s Hausa Department.
Concerning the problem of oil theft in southern Nigeria, Atiku, who served as vice president from 1999 to 2007, said he would use his presidential power to address it.
“This is a different problem; we need to figure out how we can use government influence to stop it because there is genuine cooperation from NNPC workers and security agencies that have been given the authority to monitor the construction of roads or oil pipelines.”
Nigeria has four oil refineries in Kaduna, Warri, and Fatakwal that are out of commission due to maintenance issues.
As a result, the majority of crude oil used in the country is imported from other countries.
