INEC Announces Deadline for Submission of Nomination Forms for Edo State Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an update regarding the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
According to the commission, the deadline for the submission of nomination forms for candidates is set for Sunday, 24th March 2024.
This information was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner & Chairman of the INEC Information and Voter Education Committee.
He highlighted the key dates and procedures leading up to the election.
“As provided by the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the forthcoming off-cycle Edo State Governorship election, the deadline for the conduct of primaries by political parties expired on 24th February 2024,” stated Olumekun.
He further explained that the next step is the submission of nomination forms by political parties via a dedicated online portal.

This portal will be open for 20 days, starting at 9.00am on Monday, 4th March 2024, and closing at 6.00pm on Sunday, 24th March 2024.
Olumekun emphasized that access codes for the portal will be available for collection by the National Chairmen of political parties from the designated date.
He also noted that the Commission is organizing refresher training for two Liaison Officers per party to ensure seamless nominations.
“The Commission wishes to draw the attention of Political parties that 20 days are enough to upload the nomination forms of only two candidates per party (Governorship candidate and running mate).
Therefore, there is no reason to request for an extension of time, and none will be granted beyond Sunday, 24th March 2024,” he added.
In conclusion, Olumekun urged political parties to strictly adhere to the timelines to ensure a smooth and timely process for the Edo State governorship election.
