INEC Confirms 2. 38 Million Registered Voters In Ogun

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday confirmed that it has a total number of 2, 386,101 eligible voters in its register in Ogun state.

INEC also said a total number of 571, 971 eligible voters were captured during the last continuous Voters’ Registration Exercise held in Ogun state between April 2017 and August 2018, while a total of 566, 637 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) of those who registered between 2011 and 2018 during the continuous Voters Registration exercise were available for collection.

The commission’s administrative secretary, James Oludele Popoola gave the statistics yesterday while speaking at a Stake Holders Election Forum organized by the Commission in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Popoola spoke before the stakeholders, which included representatives of all the political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, market men and women among others.

INEC’s administrative secretary further assured that names of the over 2. 386 million eligible voters captured by the commission in Ogun state will be displayed at the 3, 210 polling units across the state between 6th and 12th November to enable INEC entertains claims and objections.

He however, lamented some of the challenges confronting the commission to include inability to identify the total number of underage voters, non-Nigerians and those who have died between the period till date.

“Identifying those who are, under-aged, non-Nigerians and those who have died from the registered voters are some of the challenges facing the commission “.

Popoola also said that INEC will release forms, claims and objections at registration area for clarification of names.

“Attestation and PVC incident forms would be respectively administered on voters without Temporary Voters Cards (TVCs) and those whose names appear in the register of voters but without unprinted PVCs.”
