Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has instructed the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) to launch an immediate investigation into allegations concerning a contract reportedly awarded for the supply of drugs to all 44 Local Government Councils in the state.

The governor also disavowed any knowledge of the contract, which is rumoured to have been awarded to Garba Kwankwaso, who is believed to be the brother of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the prominent figurehead of the Kwankwasiyya movement and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election.

Recall that a US-born filmmaker and content creator, Bello Galadanchi, had released an expose, alleging that the state government directed all 44 Local Government Councils to pay N10 million each for the supply of drugs which was allegedly awarded to one company – Novomed, said to be owned by Garba Kwankwaso

The allegations have sparked widespread reactions and discussions on social media.

In response to the report, a joint statement issued by Kano Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, and Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sanusi Tofa, emphasized Yusuf’s lack of knowledge about the contract and confirmed that the PCACC has been tasked with investigating the matter and providing a report for any necessary further action.

“The Governor has directed the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) to promptly investigate the allegations and submit a report for appropriate action,” the statement read.
