Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The Labour Party (LP) has demanded that Iyaloja General, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu Ojo, be arrested and prosecuted for allegedly coercing traders to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who happens to be her father.

A viral video from the weekend showed traders’ shops being closed for allegedly failing to attend Tinubu’s women’s rally.

The affected sellers claimed they were fined N5,000.

According to the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abayomi Oluwafemi Arabambi, the action was contrary to democratic principles.

According to him, every Nigerian has the right to join any political party of his or her choice.

He emphasized that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) guaranteed freedom of association, and he wondered when making personal political decisions became a crime in Nigeria.

Arabambi cited Section 40 of the Constitution, which states that “every person shall have the right to freely assemble and associate with other persons, and in particular, he may form or belong to any political party, trade union, or association for the protection of his interests.”

He stated that the call became necessary as a result of repeated attacks on party members and offices in various parts of Lagos.

According to the spokesman, the state police command has refused to act on its request to create an enabling environment for all politicians, regardless of party affiliation.

The opposition party also called President Muhammadu Buhari’s attention to an alleged assault on one of its members in Delta State, pleading with him to intervene immediately.

It urged believers to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
