Osun 2022: PDP Adeleke’s victory confirms the will of the people of Osun — Okowa

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday described the victory of the party’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in Saturday’s gubernatorial election as an affirmation of the will of the people of Osun.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Okowa congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke on his victory, urging Nigerians to always support good leaders who have the best interests of the people in mind, as the people of Osun did for Adeleke.

“The electorate across the 30 local government areas of Osun state spoke loudly and very clearly in their affirmation of Adeleke as the next governor,” he said.

He praised the former governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Olu Alabi, and other party leaders in the state for working together in the interest of the PDP and the people of Osun, adding that Adeleke’s election demonstrated the PDP’s determination to save Nigeria.

“The mission has only just begun,” he said. Let me congratulate my brother, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his election victory as governor of Osun on July 16.

“It is heartening to see you emerge as the Governor-elect of Osun against all odds, and I am grateful to the Osun electorate for rejecting the entreaties of retrogressive forces who were ostensibly committed to subverting the wishes of the people through vote-buying and other rigging strategies.”

“I would also like to thank the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for demonstrating true independence as required by our laws and for improving election logistics and conduct.”

“The most significant aspect of this victory is the election’s peaceful outcome, as Osun people acted responsibly by ensuring that the election was free of violence.”

Okowa also congratulated the PDP and the Chairman of its National Campaign Council for the Osun Governorship Election and Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Douye Diri, as well as other members of the campaign council, in the statement.

He stated that the brotherhood demonstrated by PDP governors and other party members in support of Adeleke’s election was exactly what the country needed right now to propel the country to greater heights in 2023.

“Let me also congratulate our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council and Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Douye Diri, and other members of the campaign Council for their efforts that resulted in the party’s victory in Osun,” Okowa said.

“I must also thank my principal and our great party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, and former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, for their attendance at the rally in Osun, which contributed significantly to the election’s outcome.”

“As a nation, we can only progress if the people are allowed to choose their leaders at all levels without interference, as demonstrated in Osun.”

“As a result, this is a clarion call for INEC to strive to do the right thing as an unbiased umpire.”

“On behalf of the Delta government and people, I congratulate you, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on your successful election as Governor-elect of Osun.”

“I pray that God will grant you wisdom, knowledge, and the resources you need to carry out your campaign promises of removing the darkness that pervades your state, Osun.”

Adeleke, the PDP candidate, was declared the winner of the state’s gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 403,371 votes to defeat the incumbent, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 375,027 votes.
