Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has backed a grassroots campaign aimed at gaining 2 million votes for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election.

The governor personally led members of the State Executive Council (Exco), including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, to a conference organized by the Asiwaju Grassroots Talk (AGT), where he drummed up support for the group’s political advocacy and voter mobilization strategy throughout Lagos’ local communities.

The event, titled Political Evangelism: Raising Active Voters Above 50%, took place at the 10 Degrees Event Centre in Oregun, Ikeja.

The group is mobilizing for the victory of APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and working to ensure the continuation of Lagos’ progressive government.

Sanwo-Olu stated that his support for the AGT advocacy project stemmed from its demonstrated ability to influence and mobilize real voters, noting that AGT had a strong presence across Lagos communities.

“We are ready to take the gospel to the electorate and canvass support for Tinubu’s presidency,” he said. Asiwaju has a proven track record of good governance and service delivery, which canvassers can use to engage and win potential voters’ support.

“We must discuss Asiwaju’s transformative leadership, progressive ideals, and vision for taking this country to the next level of meaningful development.”

“Asiwaju Tinubu is coming to bring hope and change, which will lead to genuine prosperity.” He is coming to address the issues that our country’s youth, women, and vulnerable face. His programs will have an impact on the lives of traders, artisans, and those looking for legitimate ways to make a living. We are all coming together to support this grassroots movement to ensure Lagos is delivered for the APC because we have a strong belief in Asiwaju’s leadership…”

Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi praised the initiative’s members.

He stated that the ruling party would face a “important election” next year, which would strengthen it even further in order to deliver more dividends of good governance to Lagosians and other Nigerians.

AbdulHakeem Tugbobo, Director-General of AGT, stated that the organization was founded in 2018 to drive community advocacy and educate voters at the grassroots about Asiwaju Tinubu’s vision and political philosophy.

According to him, the group aligned itself with the APC’s progressive ideals as a result of the party’s various development goals, particularly in Lagos.

A group of youths from the 19 northern Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is also rallying support for Asiwaju Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, under the banner of the 100 Percent Focus Movement.

Labib Mahmood, the movement’s National Coordinator, told reporters yesterday that the movement was formed to educate northerners about the importance of voting for Asiwaju Tinubu and Senator Shettima next year.

“While the challenges confronting my people are enormous,” he said, “a social organization would not be able to make much of an impact without collaboration with partners.”

“Three organizations joined forces with us to launch a foundation, and we realized that Nigeria’s problem is a lack of purposeful leadership.”

“We focused our search on leaders who had demonstrated the ability to provide quality and purposeful leadership, so we chose Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
