The Labour Party is facing uncertainty in its bid to replace Lagos’s governor candidate
By Adeleye Kunle
The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has been unable to replace its candidate for the 2023 governorship election.
The development, according to Track News, has thrown the party into disarray as the 2023 general elections approach.
The party was supposed to hold a new primary election yesterday, but the process was halted after one of the aspirants, Moshood Salvador, accused the party of tampering with the delegates’ list.
There are controversies in the state party chapter, according to Track News, as stakeholders put pressure on aspirant Mr Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour to step down for Salvador.
Their bid, however, fell through yesterday because the former insisted on running in the primary.
According to reports, Salvador, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the LP, called for a postponement of the primary yesterday while speaking to reporters at the venue of the primary.
However, the Chairman of the Substitution Governorship Primary Election, Sam Emeka Okpara, stated that there was no omission on the part of the committee and that the primary would proceed as planned.
Okpara urged the aspirants to be patient and allow the committee to complete its work, promising a level playing field for the two candidates.
Alhaji Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, the party’s Deputy National Chairman, said Mr. Ifagbemi Awamaridi, whom he described as the placeholder for the party in the state, had formally withdrawn from the party.
