Osita Okechukwu, Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), has commented on All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Okechukwu described the move as an excellent choice in a personally signed statement issued on Sunday.

He claimed that both men have a track record of excellent performance as governors, which he believes they can replicate as Nigerian leaders.

“On the choice of Distinguished Sen. Kashim Shettima as Vice Presidential Candidate, I think it is an excellent joint ticket.

“An excellent joint ticket because, as Asiwaju pointed out, Shettima is a transparent man of action and capable,” Okechukwu said.

Concerning a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the VON DG stated that because both Tinubu and Shettima are moderate Muslims, there should be no unnecessary fear or agitation, though he would have preferred a Muslim-Christian ticket.

“As a Christian, I would have preferred a Muslim-Christian ticket; however, there was likely input from Northern Governors who are staunch supporters of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

“The good news is that they are both moderate Muslims, not extremists.”

Tinubu, according to Naija News, unveiled former Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election on Sunday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.
