Tinubu Scored 25% Of Votes In 29 States. FCT Has No Constitutional Status Over Other 36 States- INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has defended Bola Tinubu’s mandate at the court, claiming that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, scored 25 percent of the valid votes cast in 29 states of the federation as required by the constitution.

Speaking further, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, made it clear that a candidate doesn’t need to secure 25 percent of votes in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, to win a presidential election, noting that FCT Abuja, has no special constitutional status over and above the other 36 states of the Federation, Vanguard paper reported.

The Commission said: “Tinubu scored 25 per cent of the valid votes cast in 29 states, namely: Ekiti, Kwara, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Yobe, Lagos, Gombe, Adamawa, Katsina, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Kogi, Bauchi, Plateau, Bayelsa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, Taraba, Borno and Rivers. FCT, beyond being the country’s capital, has no special constitutional status over and above the other 36 states of the Federation.”

Furthermore, INEC described the petition of Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi as incompetent, noting that President-elect, Bola Tinubu won the February 25 election.

It should be recalled that the PDP and the Labour Party, approached the court, claiming that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, failed to meet up with the constitutional requirement by failing to get up to 25 percent of votes in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
