The NLC, TUC, and The Federal Government met on Wednesday after President Bola Tinubu declared in his inauguration that fuel subsidy is gone.

The meeting ended in a deadlock with the workers association refusing to agree with the Federal Government. The President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo has alleged that the government had suggested paying 5000 each to 10 million households in average families for the next six months.

A Palliative measure initiative which he claimed was deemed to lessen the effect of the fuel hike and removal of Oil subsidy. He stated categorically that the TUC and the NLC had refused this offer as they argued that no palliative measure has worked in Nigeria in the past.

According to him, the situation of the economy does not weigh in the palliative measures the government intends to set up for Nigerians.

He said, ”One of the things that they said is the issue of 800 million dollars in palliatives. They plan to send 5000 naira each to 10 million households in average families of at least 5 people in a house.

So that gives about 50 million people for six months. So we told them, what is this, we blatantly told them we don’t agree with that. The conditional transfer that they have been doing over the years, we are yet to see the auditory.

We don’t see the people who have received these things and we don’t think those programmes have worked well. And so we cannot replicate failure
