Very unfortunate! – Rep. Rodney Ambaiowei mourn victims of boat mishap in Southern Ijaw.

The Member, House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Rodney Ambaiowei has expressed his immense grief over the boat accident that have claimed the lives of our beloved brothers and sisters who were in the ill-fated Ezetu-Ukubie Market Boat.

In a statement issued by his media assistant, Mr. Mike Makpah stated that, Hon. Rodney extends his heartfelt condolence to the families of those who loss loved ones and to those commuters badly injured.

The said local boat was reportedly sailing from Ekeni Community to Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State when the fire incident occurred yesterday, Wednesday, July 7th, 2024, at about 12:30 p.m.

Hon. Rodney expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the State and Constituents as well as to the families whose loved ones died in the artificial disaster. He prayed for those who were rescued and are still receiving medical attention in various medical facilities for a speedy recovery and get back to their feet.

He commended the efforts of the rescue workers while calling on stakeholders in the maritime sector to adhere to rules and regulations of the industry by engine boat operators to forestall incidents of this magnitude in the future in our coastlines.

Recall that, on the 20th of July, 2023 being a representative of the people in the riverine area he has moved a motion in the floor of the House for the need to tackle the menace of incessant boat/watercraft mishaps on our coastlines/waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area to curb situations like this.

To him,the situation is pathetic and heartbreaking, he prayed God Almighty to grant and repose the souls of the departed beloved brothers and sisters.
