The Bayelsa State Government has called on all eligible voters in the state to go to their various polling units and check their names on the displayed voters register.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson made the call on Wednesday, following the commencement of the display of the National Register of Voters by INEC.

The exercise which started on November 6, will last for six days across polling units in the country.

Iworiso-Markson stressed that the display of the register is very important as it will afford Bayelsans the opportunity to make claims and objections.

He added that the exercise will also provide for scrutiny during which complaints in relation to names omitted or included in the register shall be raised.

The Goverment spokesman urged Bayelsans, especially civil servants to dedicate this weekend for that purpose and reminded them that the display of Voters register is as important as the main election.

According to him, if all the corrections are made on the voters register, it will enhance the voting strength of the state, as eligible voters will not suffer the fate of their names being unjustly misplaced or missing .

He said: ” As a state we are sort of deficient in terms of voting strength and it will be unfortunate that our numbers are further depleted for one reason or the other. So we must take this exercise seriously and ensure we cross check our names that have been displayed in all polling units.

” As a government we are taking the time to issue this statement because we don’t want any laxity on the part of eligible voters in the state. So out appeal is for everyone that is of voting age and has registered to go and cross check their names. For civil servants, this weekend is a good time because the exercise is only for 6 days which means it will end on November 12, 2018″.
