Presidency Compares Peter Obi To Donald Trump
The Presidency has drawn a striking parallel between Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and former U.S. President Donald Trump. This comparison was made by Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, in a post on X.com following a recent U.S. presidential debate.
Ajayi stated, “Peter Obi is the Nigeria version of Donald Trump. Like Obi, Trump will use the most negative epithets imaginable to describe a country he wants to lead again just to make a point and rile up his base.” This comment comes in the wake of a heated debate between Trump and Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, where both candidates clashed on key issues such as abortion rights and immigration.
During the debate, Ajayi praised Harris for effectively prosecuting her case against Trump, claiming she convincingly won the exchange. He noted, “Kamala Harris knew Trump’s weakness and set traps for him. Trump fell for her baits.”
Ajayi highlighted the discrepancies in claims made during the debate, mentioning that while Harris made just one incorrect statement, Trump was reported to have made 33 false claims throughout the 90-minute discussion. Media reports indicated that Trump often engaged with Harris’s provocations, reiterating conspiracy theories and false assertions regarding the 2020 election and immigration.
In a particularly controversial moment, Trump claimed that immigrants in Springfield were “eating the dogs and pets” of local residents, a statement that was quickly contradicted by the city manager, who labeled it baseless.
