Prof. Okaba Inaugurates Association of Ijaw Academics to Drive Development and Intellectual Investment in Ijaw Nation

In a momentous occasion, Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba, the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), has launched the Association of Ijaw Academics (AIA) with the aim of fostering intellectual growth and development within the Ijaw community.
The inauguration ceremony, held on 20th March 2024 at the Law Faculty Hall of Nigeria Delta University, Bayelsa State, marked a significant step towards leveraging the expertise and knowledge of Ijaw intellectuals for the betterment of the Ijaw Nation.
During the inaugural meeting, Prof. Okaba highlighted the pivotal role that intellectuals play in driving progress and finding solutions to challenges. He emphasized the importance of a united front of academics dedicated to supporting the vision of the Ijaw National Congress through educational services and peaceful engagement. The establishment of the AIA aims to promote academic excellence, advocate for stability in academic pursuits, and preserve the rich heritage of the Ijaw people.
To lead the AIA in its mission, Prof. Okaba appointed a 7-man interim Committee, with Prof. Paingha Joe Alagoa as the National Chairman and Prof. E. Erezene as the National Secretary, among others. The Interim Executive’s Terms of Reference include building a global network of Ijaw Academics, assisting the government in developmental efforts, and promoting educational consciousness in Ijawland.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Alagoa expressed the commitment of the AIA’s National Executive to serve the Ijaw people with dedication and professionalism. He acknowledged the visionary leadership of President Okaba and Prof. Steven Temegha Olali in establishing the AIA and expressed optimism about the positive impact the association will have on the future of the Ijaw Nation.
The inauguration of the Association of Ijaw Academics signifies a new chapter in the history of the Ijaw people, focusing on harnessing intellectual capital for sustainable development and progress. With a strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing, the AIA aims to drive positive change and prosperity in the Ijaw community.
