Proposed amendment of chiefs law cannot achieve any result – Alli cautions Makinde

The senator-elect for Oyo South Senatorial District, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has declared that the proposed amendment of the Chiefs Law in Oyo State cannot achieve any result.
Alli, a former secretary to the Oyo State Government, cautioned that the proposed amendment will give the governor of the state more powers than is needed and the process will become political.
TRACKNEWS recalls that the Oyo State House of Assembly has perfected plans to amend Section 28 (1) of the Chiefs Law, CAP 28, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The executive arm of government in the state, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, had sent the proposed amendment of Section 28 (1) of the Chiefs Law, CAP 28 Laws of the State 2000, to the state house of assembly. The proposed amendment is currently before the Oyo State House of Assembly for amendment.
Alli, has, however, said that the proposed amendment cannot achieve any result.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, while speaking in Ibadan at the weekend, warned the governor and other people in the office not to dabble into matters of Obas and land.
Alli, while speaking, further explained that whatever the governor wants to do must be in line with customs and traditions.
“I sincerely believe the way the governor is going about it will not achieve the desired result.
“We do not need that amendment, the governor is just giving excuses.
“The proposed amendment will give the governor more powers than is needed, and the process will become political.
“Has the state council of Obas been convened and they did not attend? What the chiefs need is recognition and a proper place in protocol, not beaded crowns.
“Whatever we want to do must be in line with customs and traditions. We need to be cautious and I would like to warn those in office not to dabble into the matters of Obas and land”.
