Protesters Call Former Governor Wike ‘Thief’ in Port Harcourt
End Bad Governance protesters today in a video cited by Track News Online were seen calling former governor Nyesom Wike “Ole,” which in translation means thief.
The FCT Minister has faced public criticisms since the fight with his successor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara broke out late last year.
The protesters who have been in the streets of Port Harcourt since the 1st of August seemed to be infuriated with the former governor of Rivers State, especially as he serves in the current administration of the federal government as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The demonstrators was captured in the video at the front of Wike’s country home calling the two times former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area a thief, signifying their believe that he stole public funds while in service as the Governor of the state.
Similarly, they gathered in front of Hyper City, a shopping mall belonging to the Abuja administrator, singing “Our Money.” However, their motives for the chants were not clearly stated. Onlookers assumed this referred to alleged stolen funds used to build the mall.
There has been a nationwide protest in Nigeria following the complaints of the people against bad government, with Nigerians demanding the reversal of the removal of fuel subsidy and the hike in electricity tariff.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed Nigerians on Sunday morning following the protest. His address, however, was rejected by the protesters and many other stakeholders such as Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election.
