Angry youths in Naka, Benue State, torched the palace of Ter Nagi, Chief Daniel Abomtse, and parts of the Gwer West Local Government Secretariat on Tuesday, following the killing of three people.

The unrest was triggered by the deaths of three operatives of the Benue Civil Protection Guards, allegedly killed by suspected armed herders in Garuwa community. When the victims’ bodies were brought back to Naka, tensions escalated, leading to protests that eventually turned violent, resulting in widespread destruction.

Confirming the incident, the Gwer West LGA Chairman, Victor Omirin, stated:

“Yes, the secretariat and the Ter Nagi palace were set on fire. The protest began after three protection guards were killed in Garuwa, and it was later hijacked by hoodlums.”

Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, for an official response were unsuccessful at the time of this report. Authorities are yet to announce any arrests or measures to restore order in the affected areas.
