Qatar 2022: I’m happy – Modric speaks about his retirement after beating Morocco in third place.
Luka Modric, Croatia’s legendary midfielder, has spoken about his future with the national team following his country’s third-place finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Real Madrid man appears to have made his final World Cup appearance, but he will still play for his country in the UEFA Nations League.
The midfielder said decisions concerning his future in the national team will be taken ‘step by step’.
Croatia finished second in Russia four years ago, but won the bronze medal after a 2-1 victory over Morocco, thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol that were cancelled out by the Africans before Mislav Orsic netted the game-winning goal.
“What about my future? I’m not sure if I’ll be playing until the Euros in Germany. We’ll see. “I need to take it slowly,” he told beIN Sports.
“I’m enjoying the national team, I feel happy, I want to continue at least until the Nations League and then after that, there will be more time to think about the Euros. But now it’s just step by step, at least until Nations League, and then we’ll see.”
