Raheem: Two officers have been released by the police

Two police officers arrested alongside ASP Dambri Vandi in connection with the alleged murder of Mrs Omobolale Raheem will be released today (Tuesday) because they were not involved in the crime, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

SP The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to reporters on Tuesday while providing an update on the killing.
Police in Lagos arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dambri Vandi and two other officers assigned to the Ajiwe police station in the Ajah area on Christmas Day for allegedly killing a lawyer, Mrs Omobolale Raheem.

According to Hundeyin, they were immediately taken into protective custody and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for an extensive investigation.

He stated that the two ASP officers arrested were detained for questioning and testimony.

“The two police men arrested with ASP , who killed the lawyer will be released today (Tuesday) after giving their testimonies to the command.

“They were arrested because they saw what happened. They were not the woman’s alleged murderers.

“They’ve given their accounts of what happened, and the CP has ordered that they be released while investigations are ongoing,” he said.

On the similar killing of Gafaru Buraimoh on December 7 by a police officer from the same Ajiwe police station, Hundeyin stated that the officer was still in detention and had yet to be charged in court.

The police officer has yet to be arraigned, according to the image’s creator, because his dismissal order has not been released.

“Yes, there are repercussions. The officer remains detained at the SCID. His investigation is nearly finished.

“He will be charged in court as soon as his dismissal order is issued,” he said.

Hundeyin stated that there was nothing wrong with the location or area where the killings occurred, but that the officers who killed would face consequences.

He claimed that following the first incident on December 7, the commissioner of police, Abiodun Alabi, changed the station’s DPO.
“This has become one too many, especially given that a similar incident occurred at the same location less than three weeks ago.

“The condemnable incident is against the standard operating procedure (SOP) and rules of engagement of the Force, and to say the least is embarrassing.

“In addition to this incident, the Nigeria Police Force will review its rules of engagement to eliminate such avoidable ugly incidents,” Hundeyin said.

The spokesman urged residents to remain calm, noting that the Command was already in contact with the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that justice was fully served.
