Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric says he will not retire after the World Cup.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric says he has no plans to retire ahead of Croatia’s World Cup opener.

The 37-year-old says he is only concerned with the present.

“Honestly, I feel good,” Modric said. “I almost always play with Real Madrid. When I play, I still feel good.

“I’m here at the World Cup to keep playing and enjoying football.” I don’t consider what might happen later. I’m excited about it. It gives us great pride to know that we have the full support of the fans.

“I haven’t made a decision [about his international career], but I’m here to play a good tournament, and that’s exactly what I intend to do.” We’ll see what happens.

“We believe in our chances, but we must play together as we have in the previous games.” We have to take it one game at a time; we have a tough game ahead of us, but I believe we can come out on top.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that if Portugal wins the World Cup, he will retire, but Modric has not made a similar commitment.

“If that’s what it takes to win, then I’ll say goodbye,” Modric said. “When we wear this shirt, we always give our all, and I hope the fans are pleased with us.” We’re going to give it our all.”
