Russian officials arrive in Addis Ababa to strengthen ties with Ethiopia
Russian officials have arrived in Addis Ababa to strengthen ties with Ethiopia amid crises in Africa’s second most populous nation.
Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia met with Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Mr. M. Bogdanov.
The meeting took place on Saturday (February 05) on the margins of the 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
“During their discussion, the two sides deliberated ways to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and Russia with further engagements in various sectors, including agriculture, energy, and technology transfer,” the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “Discussing regional and global issues, the two sides pledged to continue cooperating in multilateral fora to protect their interests in ways that commensurate with their friendly relations. They further underlined the need to resolve conflicts in Africa through political and diplomatic means in line with the fundamental principles of international law.”
The Minitry added that “the discussion between the two sides also included issues related to the second Russia-Africa Summit.”
