SAD NEWS: Boat Mishap Claims Lives Of 10 Children In Cambodia

Track News Nigeria have learnt that nothing less than 10 younger kids lost their lives and one other declared missing in Cambodia after a boat conveying them home from an English class, sank in the Mekong river.

The Police Department in the area disclosed the sad news on Friday, October 14.

The small boat was overloaded and sank about 50 metres (160 feet) from its destination in southeastern Kandal province after it began taking on water late Thursday, local police boss, called Am Thou, said in an interview with journalists.

“It’s a sad accident. Eight students died and three students remain missing in the water,” Am Thou noted.

He added that the victims were aged between 12 and 15, while two adult boat operators and two students were rescued.

As contained in a Facebook post, Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his condolences and told the residents to be cautious during heavy floods that have raised the level of the Mekong.

Boat accidents are common in the Southeast Asian nation, with people who live along the river reliant on them for transport.
