Sanwo-Olu, Oniru restates need for press freedom

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and The Oniru of Iru Land, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal has reiterated the necessity of press freedom for Nigeria’s democracy to thrive. The duo said this recently at the formal opening of Adamimogo 93.1 FM Radio Station in Lekki, which has a live and recording studio founded by the Planter of Christ Apostolic Church, Grace and Mercy Prayer Mountain, Prophet Sam Olu Alo.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, saluted the courage of Prophet Alo in founding the radio station, charged the management of the radio station to be the light for the people either in the area of the gospel or disseminating actual news. ”In these days of fake news, Adamimogo FM should be different and blaze the trail in disseminating right and factual information to Lagosians and the world at large”.

In his words, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, said that the radio stations are an avenue to provide a voice that is key for the sustenance of our democracy. He said that for democracy to thrive we need the freedom of the press. The democracy we are enjoying today, some people fought for it. Lawal added that “civil society organisations and the media create a voice for the people.

Alo, who was highly elated, said he was glad that God could use him to actively engage young people and help them showcase their talents, as the government alone cannot solve the problem of unemployment.
