Security threats: Jigawa govt shuts schools
Adeleye Kunle Reports
Due to security concerns, the Jigawa State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools in the state, TrackNews reports.
Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, the State Commissioner for Education, revealed this to reporters in his office.
Danzomo explained that the directive does not apply only to Jigawa State, but to all states, particularly border states.
TrackNews has learned that the state government has ordered the immediate closure of all primary and secondary schools while students take their final exams.
Residents, students, and teachers have all expressed concern about the abrupt closure.
A headmaster told TrackNews that they were instructed to close the schools and release the students immediately.
He stated that the directive came while the students were writing their exams a few days before the normal deadline.
The TrackNews also discovered that most students, particularly those from boarding schools, were left stranded after the schools closed.
Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police spokesperson in Jigawa, said the state police command did not order the school closures, and the Ministry of Education has not briefed the command on what caused the sudden closures.
