Senate confirms Aminu Maida as Executive VC of Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC)
The Senate, yesterday, confirmed Dr Aminu Maida as substantive Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The confirmation during plenary followed adoption of report of the Committee on Communications that screened Maida on Wednesday, November 15.
Panel chairman and former Minister of Communications, Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis, urged the upper legislative chamber to consider President Bola Tinubu’s request.
According to a statement from NCC, signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, Bilbis informed the Senate that Maida possessed the requisite qualifications, professional experience, competence and regulatory capacity to ensure accelerated development of the nation’s telecommunications sector.
Maida had told the committee that his top priorities were to improve coverage and connectivity by bridging access gaps between rural and urban communities through increased broadband infrastructure, as well as increasing quality service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for consumers to enjoy value for their money.
He takes over from Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, who held office from 2015 to 2023.
