SGBV: time to act, says Sanwo-Olu’s wife

Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged stakeholders to support the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
She spoke at the second Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum organised by her office for Non-Governmental and Civil Society organisations involved in the SGBV fight.
According to her, the forum was to galvanise action among stakeholders in line with the state’s policy of zero tolerance for violence against women, girls, children, and also men and boys.
“For me, it’s time to act more and be more proactive. A lot of progress has been achieved, but there is still a lot to do. It is really painful to know that these things are still happening, and this reinforces the conviction that we must work collaboratively to stamp it out totally,” she said:
She also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for signing the bill establishing the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency into law, adding “It will provide a quantum leap to tackle the menace, name and shame perpetrators, and provide adequate support to victims,” she added.
Project Coordinator for Iyaniwura Children Care Foundation, Mrs. Olajumoke Otitoloju, said the war against SGBV can be won with collaborative efforts. She praised Mrs. Sanwo-Olu for taking steps to streamline efforts of NGOs, describing it as a step in the right direction.
