Sharia Police Is Legal, But Amotekun Is Illegal
TRACKING>Nigerians have been asking the Federal Government of Nigeria to clarify why it said the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, is illegal.
What Nigerians want to know is that, is there any right those in the North have that other Southern States do not have?
If we can ‘legally’ have Hisbah Commission and Civilian Joint Task Force in the North, why can’t we have Amotekun legally in the Southwest.
Hisbah, known as Sharia Police has been operating like the Nigeria Police Force.
They arrest people and prosecute them at the Sharia Court, under the Islamic Sharia law. All is this is happening in a secular nation like Nigeria, but the federal government did not declare that illegal.
Few days ago, 32 suspected prostitutes were arrested in Kano by Sharia Police.
During the last Ramadan fasting, many people were arrested by this Sharia Police because they did not fast.
In Zamfara, these Sharia Policemen arrested an officer of the Nigeria Police Force for being in a hotel with a lady.
Tell me, are they not usurping the job of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies by arresting, detaining and prosecuting people, even a policeman.
To add salt to the injury, the Chief Judge of the Federation, Justice Muhammed Tanko, at a recent gathering, said the Nigerian constitution should be amended to accommodate Sharia Law.
Maybe we should change Amotekun to Sharia Police or what do you think?
