EPL: I still want to join Chelsea, will compete with Mount – Zakharyan
By Adeleye Kunle
Dynamo Moscow midfielder, Arsen Zakharyan, has reiterated his desire to join Chelsea in the upcoming January transfer window after his summer move to the Premier League giants fell through.
Zakharyan was wanted by Chelsea, with new owner Todd Boehly willing to sanction a £12.6 million move for the Russian star, who is now on the radar of many other European clubs.
The deal for Zakharyan was called off because of FIFA and UEFA restrictions on clubs buying Russian players.
The regulatory measures were imposed due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Chelsea reportedly remains intent on pursuing the 19-year-old despite being a target of former manager Thomas Tuchel.
“My agents and my club have told me that a request has come from Chelsea. I have directly said my position is that I want to join Chelsea,” Zakharyan said, as reported in the Metro.
“I know that there is a good competition in my position with Mount, Havertz, and Gallagher, so I don’t mind going on loan to adapt to the European league. I was stressed because I wanted this transfer.
“Right now, I have Chelsea and I want to go to Chelsea. I know that other clubs are interested in me, I’m proud of that, but I want to go to Chelsea.”
