EPL: Referee Robert Jones reveals why he didn’t award Arsenal penalty against Southampton
By Adeleye Kunle
Arsenal striker, Gabriel Jesus, has claimed referee Robert Jones told him he needed to fall to the ground if he wanted to win a penalty during their 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday.
The Gunners dropped points for only the second time this season after the draw at St Mary’s.
Granit Xhaka’s assured finish was cancelled out by Stuart Armstrong’s second-half goal.
But Arsenal felt they should have gotten a penalty in the first half after Duje Caleta-Car tussled with Jesus inside Southampton’s area.
“I don’t like to talk about the referee’s decisions, I just want to talk about our performance but sometimes it can change the game.
“I spoke with him straight after and he said. ‘if you go down before, maybe I can give a penalty,” Jesus told Arsenal’s official website
