Fourteen Teams to Participate in Comptroller General Nigeria Custom, Military/Paramilitary Wrestling Challenge.

The Nigeria Wrestling Federation in collaboration with the Nigeria Custom Service say it is working round the clock to avert a repeat of the nation’s poor outing in the 2024 Olympic games in Paris, France.

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation Dr Daniel Igali and the Comptroller General Nigeria Custom Service, Alhaji Adewale Adeniyi gave the hint at a press conference held in Abuja ahead of the Comptroller General Nigeria Custom, Military/Paramilitary Wrestling Challenge in Abuja.

Dr. Igali who doubles as the commissioner of Sports Development in Bayelsa noted that the championship was not only an event but a manifestation of the federation’s vision to propagate and enhance wrestling among the heart of the armed forces and the paramilitary agency.

According to him, the introduction of the inaugural championship promises to significantly strengthen the synergy between the military and civilians through the shared values inherent in sports, stressing that the championship was aimed at rewriting the nation’s story in the next Olympic games.

He noted that the target of the federation is to see the country’s wrestlers win medals in the 2028 Olympics games in Los Angeles, USA.

Comptroller General Nigeria Custom Service, Alhaji Adewale Adeniyi, asserted that the championship would give the wrestling federation a platform to nurture talent that would represent the nation in the future.

Alhaji Adeniyi noted that Nigeria Custom Service through the Comptroller General Custom CGC is collaborating with the Wrestling Federation to sponsor the competition, stating that their priority is to give the country representation in the future.

He explained that the championship would kick off from the 19th through the 25th of October, 2024 with the aim of fostering unity amongst security agencies in Nigeria.

Also, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs for the laudable initiative, urging agencies to be involved in the development of sports.

Gen Musa, who described sports as the biggest unifier in the country, called on leaders to encourage sporting activities.

A total of fourteen teams will participate in the maiden Comptroller General Nigeria Custom, Military/Paramilitary Wrestling Challenge in Abuja.
