Ogboinbiri triumphed 1-0 over Bayelsa United Feeders in a keenly contested first semi finals game at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

Bayelsa United Feeders and Ogboinbiri displayed good football artistry, to the admiration of the crowd as the first half ended goalless.

On resumption of the second half both teams tried to open the scoring but to no avail, with a defender of Ogboinbiri clearing the ball of the line with what would have been a goal for United Feeders.

Steven Bekeowei’s header in the 83rd minute was all the Southern Ijaw side needed to move to the final of the Prosperity cup.

Bayelsa Queens Football Club has unveiled Whyte Ogbonda as their new head coach.

During the unveiling ceremony in Yenagoa, on Tuesday 16th July,2024 at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who was represented by his deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said the appointment of Whyte Ogbonda is a clear indication that the state is ready to compete at all levels.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo described the decision to appoint the experienced tactician as a strategic move to rejuvenate the team to a more enviable height and to build on their legacy.

“Our previous coaches did well for us but we felt that is not where we ought to be and that is why we have taken this decision to bring this experienced coach whom we all know his pedigree, so we are ready to compete”.

Commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Champion Daniel Igali said the proven track record of Whyte Ogbonda and his ability to foster young talents made him a valuable addition to the club and that their expectation is continental football which he believes coach Whyte will bring to the State.

In his remarks, Coach Whyte Ogbonda, who was with Rivers Angels last season, said he is very happy to join Bayelsa Queens as it is the dream of every coach to work with the Prosperity Girls and that he is confident his team will compete for honours in the new NWFL Premiership season and other competitions.

“This is my job and I will do what I know how to do best and I promise as we are resuming on the 20th of July, 2024, we will do everything to pick a continental ticket as that is my target”. Whyte added.

On his part, Chairman Pastor Robin Angonimi Apreala said there will be change in the team.

“Now that we have Coach Whyte Ogbonda, I believe there will be a positive change in Bayelsa Queens FC, Coach Whyte is a man of impeccable character and we’re happy to have him in our midst”, Pastor Apreala said.
