“‘Irrelevant!’ – Sen. Peter Nwebonyi Fires Back at Sen. Dickson Over Natasha’s Suspension”
Senator Peter Nwebonyi from Ebonyi State has stated that Senator Seriake Dickson’s position on Senator Natasha Akpoti’s suspension holds no weight in the Senate’s decision to suspend her for six months. He emphasized that the suspension was a unanimous decision and that Dickson’s support or opposition did not influence the outcome.
Speaking in an interview with TVC, Nwebonyi clarified that no senator stood by Akpoti on the day of her suspension. “On the day of her suspension, nobody stood by her, and it. was a unanimous decision,” he said. He added that even though Senator Dickson is a member of the Senate, he is just one voice among 109 senators, meaning his opinion alone could not change the collective decision.
According to Nwebonyi, Senator Dickson had actually disapproved of Akpoti’s actions and had previously urged her to apologize before the Senate moved to suspend her. He stated that Dickson was among those who condemned her actions and attempted to mediate a resolution. “And there was never a time Senator Dickson would support this; he’s among those that condemned the action of Senator Natasha and approached her as a member of the minority for her to tender an apology, but she refused,” Nwebonyi said.
He further revealed that prior to her suspension, Senator Akpoti had engaged in reconciliation efforts with Senator Dickson. He claimed to have video evidence showing Dickson attempting to mediate and persuade her to apologize. “I have footage of the man approaching her as recently as a few days ago, if you’re interested. As a ranking senator and a former governor, he knows the ropes,” Nwebonyi
The Ebonyi senator also alleged that Dickson led a delegation of senators to Akpoti’s residence in an attempt to resolve the issue before it escalated. “He brought a group of senators to her home; I have proof,” he stated.
