Supreme Court judgement: PDP tasks FG to speak on Public Holiday allegation

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Federal Government to clear the air on its purported move to declare Friday Public Holiday.
Track news reports that the Supreme Court had fixed Friday May 26 for ruling on the case filed by the PDP asking for the disqualification of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, the Vice President-elect.
The main opposition party had on July 28, 2022 filed a suit claiming that Shettima’s nomination as vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election was in breach of the provisions of sections 29 (1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
According to PDP, Shettima’s nomination to run for the position of vice-president and Borno central senatorial seat in the same election, contravened the new electoral law.
However, rumours making the rounds on social media had it that President Muhammadu Buhari has been allegedly advised to declare Friday Public Holiday to arrest the judgement.
Reacting to the allegation, PDP in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba asked the FG to break its silence and speak on the matter.
“The PDP also calls on the Federal Government to come clean on a further allegation, which is also in the public domain that APC is mounting pressure on the Department of State Services (DSS) to advise President Buhari to declare the public holiday.
“The ominous silence by the Federal Government in the face of such grave allegations is heightening tension across the country and has the capacity to trigger a wide-spread crisis if not immediately addressed”, the statement added.
