Suspected cultists hack 30-yr old man to death in Delta

TRACKING___Suspected cultists operating within Udu local government area of Delta state in the early hours of Sunday allegedly hacked a 30- year old man identified as Friday Okoloba to death and injured two others.

Reports said that the incident occurred at Ekreghware street Aladja town after the Suspected Cultists alleged to be members of the Barga Confraternity clashed with him and members of his family

The victim and his family members were said to have going for a Church Service when they ran into the Suspected Cultists who had been allegedly terriorizing Indigenes and residents of Aladja town in the last few weeks, a situation they sized up to surrender their offering money to them but they refused.

Eyewitness Betty Ejiro said that the Suspected Cultists numbering over twenty chased the Victims and subsequently attacked one Freeborn Ovie Godwin, a former member of the Dominion Confraternity who was later arrested and remanded in Warri Prison Custody before he was released.

The said Freeborn Ovie Godwin was said to have been seriously Macheted on his back and his Motorcycle destroyed, but however managed to escape.

Speaking to Journalists in the area, Freeborn Ovie Godwin said” it was the grace of God that saved me from the marauding Barga Confraternity boys, I am no longer a Cultist, I was before the Vigilante arrested me and I was remanded in prison Custody for over a year, when I came out I went to them and renounced, Since then, I have been living as a free man, but I was surprised when the Barga boys chased me with Machetes and guns, they destroyed my motorcycle, and I am appealing to the Police to protect me”

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Of Ovwan Aladja Police Division, CSP Mohammed who visited the scene confirmed the incident and however sued for peace while addressing some of the youths, adding that Investigation was ongoing with a view to ensuring that those involved in the act are brought to arrest.

While warning against reprisal attacks, CSP Mohammed assured that the Police will continue to protect the lives and property of the people, adding that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

As the time of this report, the injured ones were said to have been taking to the hospital in Aladja town where they are currently receiving treatment while the Corpse of Friday Okoloba was removed from the scene to the General hospital mortuary for further investigation.
