Synagogue: Structure owners can regularise permit later –Witness

The soldiers who shot and killed a security guard and left two others injured at Diamond Bank in Jos on the 22nd of October 2018, have been arrested and detained by the Special Task Force (STF), in Plateau, code named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

The OPSH Commander, Major General Augustine Agundu, in a statement signed by the STF Spokesperson, Major Umar Adams, said the airing soldiers would be made to face the constituted military justice procedure.

“The culprits have been identified, apprehended and currently under detention and will be subjected to undergo constituted military justice procedure”, Agundu said.

“An unfortunate altercation on 22 October 2018 at about 3.00pm at Diamond Bank along Ahamadu Bello Way Jos, almost resulted into a major incident but was timely brought under control. The incident involved some of our soldiers who went to transact personal businesses at the bank which led to the avoidable incident”.

” The consequence of the altercation was a tensed exchange of vituperations between the soldiers and the bank’s security guards resulting into some shots being fired into the air, the unfortunate and avoidable incident resulted in the death of Mr Linus Edogwu while two others sustained gunshot wounds and are presently hospitalised”.

The statement which further condemned the act of the airing personnel of the Nigerian Army, also said the Command has extended it’s sympathy to the family of the deceased, the management of Daimond Bank as well as the families of the injured staff.

“May I once more reiterate that the actions of these soldiers are in total variance with our code of conduct as well as the Rules of Engagement of the OPSH”.

” The Headquarters Operation Safe Haven OPSH unequivocally condemn such over bearing acts and hereby state that it does not in any way represent the professional posture of Armed Forces of Nigeria at Large”.

The OPSH boss pledges that his Command will continue to work tirelessly to improve civil-military relationships just as it implore well meaning Nigerians to join hands with the Command in the search of durable peace on the Plateau.
