The Ekiti tribunal grants the APC permission to inspect electoral materials
By Adeleye Kunle
THE Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal yesterday granted the All Progressives Congress, APC, requests to inspect electoral materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the conduct of the state’s governorship election on June 18.
Mr Kabir Akingbolu, who represented Chief Akin Olujimi, SAN, filed an ex parte motion under Section 6(6) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Section 47(1) of the first schedule of the Electoral Act, Section 146(1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2022, and the tribunal’s inherent jurisdiction.
The chairman of the tribunal, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, granted the APC’s prayers in his ruling. The APC is the suit’s second respondent/applicant.
While granting the ex-parte motion, Justice Kpochi stated that it is necessary for the applicant to defend the petition.
Akingbolu’s oral application, as requested by the tribunal, was also granted.
Chief Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, had dragged the APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, who won the Ekiti Governorship election on June 18th, to the tribunal.
