The election in Lagos is disappointing, the reports I got from voters were disturbing- Bode George
According to a news that was published by the Vanguard paper online yesterday evening, it was reported that former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, has expressed his worry over the violence and intimidation of voters that characterized the governorship and House of Assembly elections, especially in Lagos State yesterday.
While he was speaking, after he casted his vote at his PU 002, Cameron road, Eti Osa Local Government area, in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Bode George said that the exercise was fraught with violence and voter apathy.
Bode said, “The election in Lagos is disappointing, the reports I got from voters were disturbing. The reports I have been getting so far have been very depressing and some thugs were just smashing and snatching ballot boxes at different polling units. Where I voted at Cameron, it was peaceful but the reports I have gotten so far from places like Ikeja, Shomolu, Kosofe and Shomolu, were that thugs were scaring people and ballot boxes were being snatched. I see this as voter apathy.”
Further talking, he said what the security agencies were supposed to do, was to ensure they protect lives and properties and also ensure that, voters go about exercise their franchise without any encumbrance or intimidation. But, the reports he got so far was that, people were complaining that there were intimidation and snatching of ballot boxes.
He said,.“This is disappointing and as far as I am concerned, from the reports I have gotten so far, this is voter apathy and with this kind of election, how will the international community look at Nigeria ?”
