The United Nations Speaks After Indians Attack Nigerians and Others

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Following a fracas during a football match in India that resulted in a clash between citizens and other African students, including Nigerians, the United Nations has called for peace.
According to Track News, Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed confidence that India will uphold Gandhi’s ideals.
The UN reminded Indians that the founding fathers of the UN Charter adhered to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies, which embodied the message of peace, nonviolence, and tolerance.
Although Antonio made no mention of the heinous incident, he urged the Indians to work together to make the world a more peaceful and inclusive place for all.
“Let us collaborate for the next 75 years to make the world a more peaceful, just, sustainable, and inclusive place for all.” And I am confident that India will make a significant contribution to making that happen,” Guterres said on Wednesday.
Recall that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NidCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, revealed that the Nigerian mission immediately took custody of 86 Nigerian students while inviting representatives from the Indian government to discuss the situation.
NiDCOM stated that its mission obtained the Indian government’s commitment to ensure the safety of the affected students, who returned to campus on Sunday.
“This happened Saturday as a result of a fracas during a football match between African and Indian students,” the tweets said.
“The Nigerian mission immediately took custody of 86 Nigerian students, invited Indian government representatives, and obtained their commitment to ensure the safety of the students, who returned to campus on Sunday.”
