There Is Nothing Like Fuel Subsidy Removal, Don’t Put More Problem On Nigerians – Groups Tell Tinubu

Some groups known as the Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance, and the Campaign for Constitutionalism and Human Rights have asked the Nigeria’s new President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately withdraw his comment about the removal of fuel subsidy.
If you recall vividly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier said during his inaugural speech at his inauguration ceremony on May 29th, that there will be removal of fuel subsidy.
However, while reacting to his speech on Friday 2nd May 2023, a statement signed by the chairman of the respective group, Toyin Raheem and Olutola Folorunsho, the groups appealed that he should withdraw his comment.
The groups also urged the president to make the affairs of Nigerians his first priority in all his policies and decisions, since his comment on the fuel subsidy removal was not only dictatorial but anti-people.
Also, the groups jointly asked if he had the discussion of fuel subsidy removal with anyone before making such pronouncement to the public, when he hasn’t even been a president already.
In the statement released, the group said, “As organizations that exist to make life bearable and meaningful to the common man, we appeal on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withdraw and rewind his statement on fuel subsidy removal which has brought agony to the masses”.
The statement also continued, “What has Bola Ahmed Tinubu known about the fuel subsidy when he has not even sat on the president seat for a second to know if fuel subsidy had existed or not”.
The group also took the stance to ask who the beneficiaries of the huge sum being paid as or which government officials did he comprehensively discuss the issue before making his pronouncement.
According to the group, “Even as an executive president, he does not have the power to unilaterally take decision on the scam called oil subsidy, because his pronouncement has thrown the majority of Nigerians into confusion and now there is nowhere in the country that someone can buy fuel for less than five hundred naira per liter”
