Tinubu receives HORMSA endorsement in 2023.
Wives of federal lawmakers endorsed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday under the auspices of the House of Representatives Members’ Spouses Association (HORMSA).
Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, made the endorsement when the group paid a courtesy call on Senator Oluremi Tinubu, chairman of the Tinubu/Shettima Women Campaign Team.
In her speech, Gbajabiamila stated that Asiwaju’s track record of supporting and prioritizing women makes his campaign promises about equitable representation credible.
“In 1999, when Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu became Lagos State governor, it was not the norm to carry women along so strongly, but Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not believe that only men were capable of fixing Lagos,” she said. He recognized and demonstrated the importance of women.
“With your and Asiwaju’s track records, we have no doubt that if he is elected, women will be given more room to thrive.” Asiwaju has faith in our abilities. He recognizes our worth and strength. He understands that excluding women from democracy is insufficient. This is why we can rely on his promise to increase women’s participation in government positions to at least 35%. We believe Asiwaju when he says women will be adequately represented in government appointments,” she says.
She went on to say that a country like Nigeria needs a visionary leader like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“No nation is perfect, and we can all agree that Nigeria faces numerous challenges; this is why we require a visionary with a proven track record to elevate our nation.” We have seen Asiwaju transform a failing economy and a dangerously insecure Lagos into a thriving economy and a significantly improved security situation; a prosperous state that we can all be proud of.
“We have every reason to believe that if given the chance, Asiwaju and his capable Vice-President, Distinguished Senator Kashim Shettima, can also contribute to Nigeria’s improvement.”
“Today, we have come to express our gratitude and pledge our support for the Tinubu/Shettima mission to restore hope in Nigeria,” she said.
Senator Tinubu thanked the legislators’ wives for their show of support.
She also praised the Buhari administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of those serving in the Armed Forces, and expressed hope that Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, will build on the positive developments made during the Buhari administration if elected.
She also encouraged the women to get involved in the campaign at the grassroots level.
“If the Tinubu/Shettima ticket is given this glorious opportunity, I believe we will be able to see more of the Buhari administration’s foundation laid.” There will be a lot of work, and we need you all to keep working and assisting us with the door-to-door campaign,” she said.
Tinubu also urged legislators’ wives to support their husbands’ political careers through various community and social development programs, and to use the Yuletide season to spread love and cheer by helping the needy.
