The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 19 Northern states, including Abuja, has withdrawn its support for All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.
Sunday Oibe, the Secretary-General of the Christian body, reiterated their opposition to the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna State.

CAN stated that Nigeria has never been divided along religious and ethnic lines as justification for their decision.

Oibe also warned politicians to be wary of those posing as members of the organization from the North in order to gain financial gain, emphasizing that CAN would never engage in any secret dealings with any politician.

Nigeria is under attack.
The Christian body also expressed concern about the unrelenting insecurity wreaking havoc across the country, claiming that no one is safe if terrorists threaten to kidnap President and Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

As a result, he urged President Muhammadu Buhari to rise to the occasion by carrying out his constitutional duty to protect citizens’ lives and property while also defending Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“Terrorists are wreaking havoc on Nigerians and crippling economic and social activities across the country, particularly in states such as Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Kebbi, Sokoto, and even Abuja, the country’s capital.”

“The unabated bravado and commando-like style with which these terrorists operate, even to the point of threatening to kidnap the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is concerning.” We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to band together and pray fervently for the country and the defeat of the Nigerian state’s enemies.”

Oibe also congratulated Reverend Daniel Oko, the newly elected president of CAN, and vowed the organization’s unwavering support for him.

“We congratulate the newly elected National President of CAN, Reverend Dr Daniel Oko, and his vice, Reverend Dr Stephen Baba Panyam, on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.

“In these difficult times, we encourage them to stand firm like Joshua in the Bible and to be the true voice of the church in Nigeria.” We pledge our unwavering support in all areas to ensure their success.
