Transfer: Osimhen too expensive – Rio Ferdinand names striker Man Utd should sign instead of Weghorst
Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has told the club to shun their idea of signing Wout Weghorst, but go for Porto striker, Mehdi Taremi.
Rio Ferdinand also feels signing Victor Osimhen would be too expensive for Manchester United at this moment.
Erik ten Hag desperately wants to bring in a new striker this transfer window and are concluding talks to sign Weghorst.
Weghorst, a burnley player, is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side, Besiktas
Manchester United’s first offer was rejected as they attempted to persuade the Turkish giants to cancel Weghorst’s season-long loan.
However, a club legend, Ferdinand is of the opinion the Red Devils should make a move for Taremi, who has scored 14 goals in 20 appearances for his Portuguese club this season.
Taremi currently has a €60 million (£53m) release clause in his deal with Porto, which expires next year.
When United’s move for Weghorst was raised on YouTube show Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said: “I’d have gone and got Taremi in from Porto.
“It’s massive money, 100 million, 120 million, [Victor] Osimhen, you’re getting charged. You’re paying big dough for these guys
